In the past several weeks, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has sprained his surgically repaired ankle three times, which is obviously not a very good sign for the team.

His most recent sprain will keep him out of Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, according to the Oakland Tribune. Curry says his ankle “didn’t respond as well as I wanted” and that it isn’t clear how long he will be out, the paper reports.

Curry planned to discuss his situation with a number of doctors Thursday, including the one who performed his surgery last May, Bob Anderson of OrthoCarolina, according the Trib.

Curry, the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft and the son of former NBA player Dell Curry, is averaging 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game.

Power forward Antawn Jamison has played for four different teams since entering the NBA in 1998: the Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, and Cleveland Cavaliers. But there’s one more team he’s aiming to add to the list before the 35-year-old calls it a career: the Charlotte Bobcats.

Jamison was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, but he was raised in North Carolina and would like to finish out his career with a stint with the Bobcats, according to the Charlotte Observer.

A free agent this summer, Jamison would like to play for two or three more seasons and told the Observer Tuesday that he’d try to make them be with the Bobcats: “That’s always been a dream of mine to be home,” he said, the paper reports. “To have my parents there (at home games), to have my kids there.”

Jamison, a two-time All-Star who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award back in 2004, is averaging 16.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and one assist per game this season for the Cavs.

Chicago Bulls shooting guard Rip Hamilton has missed the last two games with a groin injury but is “hopeful that he will be able to play on Wednesday night” against his former employer, the Detroit Pistons, according to ESPN Chicago.

“I’m feeling a little better,” he said Tuesday night, the site reports. “Hopefully it will feel a little bit better (Wednesday).”

Hamilton would really like to be back in action against Detroit, where he spent the last nine seasons before his contract was bought out this past offseason.

“It’s going to be fun,” Hamilton said, ESPN Chicago reports. “It’s going to be exciting. It’s going to be emotional just from being a part of that organization for so long. The fans were always great to me so it’s going to be fun.”

The injury came Friday during the third quarter of the Bulls victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

In the four games he’s played for the Bulls this season, Hamilton has averaged 12 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.

Team captain Paul Pierce may have finally appeared in a game for the Boston Celtics Monday and delivered 21 points and eight rebounds in the team’s defeat of the Washington Wizards, but that doesn’t mean his heel is fully healthy just yet.

CSN New England reports that Pierce says his heel is only at 80 percent at this point. “I still have to get my treatment,” he said, according to the site. “There’s still some bruising in the foot. I have to wear a lot of padding in my shoes. It’s coming along, but I’m feeling more confident I think. I’m not even thinking about it, and that’s the good part.”

The 34-year-old nine-time All-Star averaged 18.9 points and six rebounds per game last season.

Center Ronny Turiaf got traded from the New York Knicks back in December as the team made room for Tyson Chandler to join and help New York create its own Big Three. That addition hasn’t paid off fully for the Knicks just yet as they’ve gone 2-3.

Turiaf, however, has gotten himself into much worse territory. He’s now playing for the league’s only winless team, the Washington Wizards, and also will now be out for some time after breaking his left hand during Monday’s loss to the Boston Celtics, according to the Washington Post.

The paper notes that Turiaf broke the same hand last summer while playing with the French national team and is expected to be out of action for five to six weeks.

This will mean more playing time for JaVale McGee, who had 16 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots against the Celts Monday, and Kevin Seraphin.

The 6-10 Turiaf was averaging 1.5 points, three rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game this season.

Even though Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant has a torn ligament in his right wrist, he is planning to play in the team’s season opener on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s not really going to heal,” Bryant said, according to the paper. “The ligament’s gone. There’s nothing I can do about it. But I’ve dealt with so many hand injuries I should be all right.”
The injury, which has his wrist “swollen and painful,” occurred on Monday when he tried to break his fall during a preseason matchup with the suddenly powerful Los Angeles Clippers, the Times reports.

“It’s always been in my nature to try to figure out a way to play,” Bryant said, according to the paper.

The Times notes that Bryant took questions from reporters Thursday for “a little more than two minutes before saying, ‘Last damn hand question.’”

Last year, Bryant averaged 25.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. We’ll see how the wrist affects him.

After Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bulls, the Lakers won’t rest. They play the Sacramento Kings Monday and the Utah Jazz Tuesday.

The New Jersey Nets had a busy Thursday. They announced in the morning that center Brook Lopez would be out indefinitely with a fractured right foot. In the evening, the team announced that it had traded a draft pick to the Utah Jazz for 6-11 center Mehmet Okur.

And somewhere in there the team came to terms with veteran guard DeShawn Stevenson, according to ESPN. The word is that Stevenson will sign his one-year, $2.5 million deal Friday.

“He gives us a guy that has proven he likes to play defense and challenges guys defensively,” Nets GM Billy King said, according to the site. “Veteran presence that’s played the game and understands it. So from that standpoint, he’s won a championship, so he knows what they had to put in to win it.”

Stevenson averaged 5.3 points per game during the regular season for the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks. He had a stellar game in Game 4 of the Finals against the Miami Heat when he scored 11 points and then again delivered in Game 6 with three 3-pointers that helped the Mavs overcome Miami,

Now that Kenyon Martin’s contract has been bought out by his Chinese team, Xinjiang, he is headed back to the U.S., but he won’t be able to actually play in the NBA till mid-March when the Chinese Basketball Association season is over.

The New York Post reports that a source is saying that it is “possible” that the Knicks would want to sign Martin, who averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game for the Denver Nuggets last season, and that Martin “would be amenable to joining the Knicks.”

It all, of course, depends on how things go for the New York Knicks, who have a lot of expectations on them now that they have a frontcourt made up of Tyson Chandler, Amar’e Stoudemire, and Carmelo Anthony to start off the season.

On Thursday, the team claimed 26-year-old Steve Novak off waivers. In his five seasons in the NBA, he has shot 41 percent from three-point range. He’ll make $1.1 million.

Chuck Hayes has had a rough couple of weeks. He signed a four-year, $21.3 million deal with the Sacramento Kings, but then it was voided when it was discovered in his physical that he had a heart irregularity. At that point, it wasn’t looking good for him to sign on anywhere.

So Hayes went to the Cleveland Clinic for almost 1 hours of further evaluation, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, and then was told that he was OK to play pro basketball again and that there isn’t a problem with his heart.

Wojnarowski reports that Hayes, who grew up near Sacramento, is now signing on again with the Kings, but still must pass his physical with the team.

“I’m ecstatic inside,” Hayes told Wojnarowski. “It’s a big relief. I have no worries at all. I have a healthy heart. My heart’s fine. The doctors just say it’s too big. It’s too big means I have a big heart. I’m a big guy. That’s all it is.”

The new deal is worth $1.1 million more than his previous contract, Wojnarowski reports.

The Golden State Warriors were potentially watching their season go down the drain before it even got started when point guard Stephen Curry was helped off the court Tuesday with yet another ankle injury.

His MRI results Wednesday brought good news, though, the Oakland Tribune reports: “Tests revealed Curry didn’t sustain any ligament damage” and “the repairs made in his offseason surgery are still intact.”

It remains unclear when Curry will take to the court again but his team is scheduled to appear in one of the league’s three Christmas Day matchups. The Warriors will face off against the revamped and re-energized Los Angeles Clippers.

“Hoping for the Christmas Miracle,” Curry said, the Tribune reports.

The 23-year-old Curry averaged 18.6 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game last season.
