Power forward Antawn Jamison has played for four different teams since entering the NBA in 1998: the Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, and Cleveland Cavaliers. But there’s one more team he’s aiming to add to the list before the 35-year-old calls it a career: the Charlotte Bobcats.

Jamison was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, but he was raised in North Carolina and would like to finish out his career with a stint with the Bobcats, according to the Charlotte Observer.

A free agent this summer, Jamison would like to play for two or three more seasons and told the Observer Tuesday that he’d try to make them be with the Bobcats: “That’s always been a dream of mine to be home,” he said, the paper reports. “To have my parents there (at home games), to have my kids there.”

Jamison, a two-time All-Star who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award back in 2004, is averaging 16.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and one assist per game this season for the Cavs.

Chicago Bulls shooting guard Rip Hamilton has missed the last two games with a groin injury but is “hopeful that he will be able to play on Wednesday night” against his former employer, the Detroit Pistons, according to ESPN Chicago.

“I’m feeling a little better,” he said Tuesday night, the site reports. “Hopefully it will feel a little bit better (Wednesday).”

Hamilton would really like to be back in action against Detroit, where he spent the last nine seasons before his contract was bought out this past offseason.

“It’s going to be fun,” Hamilton said, ESPN Chicago reports. “It’s going to be exciting. It’s going to be emotional just from being a part of that organization for so long. The fans were always great to me so it’s going to be fun.”

The injury came Friday during the third quarter of the Bulls victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

In the four games he’s played for the Bulls this season, Hamilton has averaged 12 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.

Center Ronny Turiaf got traded from the New York Knicks back in December as the team made room for Tyson Chandler to join and help New York create its own Big Three. That addition hasn’t paid off fully for the Knicks just yet as they’ve gone 2-3.

Turiaf, however, has gotten himself into much worse territory. He’s now playing for the league’s only winless team, the Washington Wizards, and also will now be out for some time after breaking his left hand during Monday’s loss to the Boston Celtics, according to the Washington Post.

The paper notes that Turiaf broke the same hand last summer while playing with the French national team and is expected to be out of action for five to six weeks.

This will mean more playing time for JaVale McGee, who had 16 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots against the Celts Monday, and Kevin Seraphin.

The 6-10 Turiaf was averaging 1.5 points, three rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game this season.

Even though Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant has a torn ligament in his right wrist, he is planning to play in the team’s season opener on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s not really going to heal,” Bryant said, according to the paper. “The ligament’s gone. There’s nothing I can do about it. But I’ve dealt with so many hand injuries I should be all right.”
The injury, which has his wrist “swollen and painful,” occurred on Monday when he tried to break his fall during a preseason matchup with the suddenly powerful Los Angeles Clippers, the Times reports.

“It’s always been in my nature to try to figure out a way to play,” Bryant said, according to the paper.

The Times notes that Bryant took questions from reporters Thursday for “a little more than two minutes before saying, ‘Last damn hand question.’”

Last year, Bryant averaged 25.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. We’ll see how the wrist affects him.

After Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bulls, the Lakers won’t rest. They play the Sacramento Kings Monday and the Utah Jazz Tuesday.

Now that Kenyon Martin’s contract has been bought out by his Chinese team, Xinjiang, he is headed back to the U.S., but he won’t be able to actually play in the NBA till mid-March when the Chinese Basketball Association season is over.

The New York Post reports that a source is saying that it is “possible” that the Knicks would want to sign Martin, who averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game for the Denver Nuggets last season, and that Martin “would be amenable to joining the Knicks.”

It all, of course, depends on how things go for the New York Knicks, who have a lot of expectations on them now that they have a frontcourt made up of Tyson Chandler, Amar’e Stoudemire, and Carmelo Anthony to start off the season.

On Thursday, the team claimed 26-year-old Steve Novak off waivers. In his five seasons in the NBA, he has shot 41 percent from three-point range. He’ll make $1.1 million.

The Houston Rockets have signed Samuel Dalembert to a two-year, $13.7 million deal. The Sacramento Kings had upped their efforts to re-sign Dalembert after voiding the contract of Chuck Hayes, according to the Sacramento Bee.

“We tried to re-engage with them and see if we could try to get to something that I hoped worked for both of our interests going forward,” Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie said, according to the Bee.

But it was too late. Dalembert signed on with the Rockets, leaving the Kings shorthanded with only a few days left before the season gets underway.

ESPN reports, though, that the Golden State Warriors are looking to fill their own hole at center with 24-year-old Ukrainian free agent center Kyrylo Fesenko. However, the Warriors are not alone. The Miami Heat, a team that caught a lot of heat during last season for not having a strong enough center, are also trying to snag Fesenko, ESPN reports.

The 7-1, 280-pound Fesenko has spent the last four seasons with the Utah Jazz. He was drafted in the second round of 2007’s draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. In his career, he has averaged 8:18 minutes, 2.3 points, two rebounds, and 0.4 blocks per game.

The Portland Trail Blazers had to take to the court Wednesday night for its final preseason tune-up without the services of 6-11 center Marcus Camby after “tweaking his left knee during warm-ups,” according to the Associated Press. Portland won the game in its waning seconds when Michael Beasley sunk two free throws to make the score 85-84.

Camby will take a trip into the MRI tube Thursday, the AP reports, That’s the same knee, by the way, that Camby had surgery on back in January to patch up a partial tear of the meniscus.

“I don’t want to make a big deal out of it,” Camby said, according to the Oregonian. “We’ll know more (today), but I don’t think it’s anything. If it was Monday (during the season opener), I would be out there.”

GM Larry Riley said this summer that things were looking good on the ankle, the paper notes: “We got to the bottom of it, got it fixed, and it shouldn’t be any problem going forward,” he said.

So everything should be fine, right? Well, wrong. Curry left the Warriors’ 95-91 loss to the Sacramento Kings Tuesday with a sprained ankle that had him crawling on the court when it gave way, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

He’ll be checked out by team doctors Wednesday, but it isn’t a good sign for the 23-year-old who averaged 18.6 points, 5.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds last season. He had seven points, five assists and three steals in 15 minutes Tuesday night.

Phoenix Suns center Marcin Gortat averaged close to 30 minutes of playing time a game last season, but that number will almost certainly start out lower when the NBA season finally gets rolling this Sunday thanks to an injury he suffered in the team’s preseason finale Tuesday night.

After the Suns went down 127-110 to the Denver Nuggets, Gortat tweeted that he had broken his thumb. “Last thing I need right now,” he wrote. You can be sure that’s what Suns GM Lance Blanks is thinking, too.

The 27-year-old Gortat had 14 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in the game while backup Robin Lopez had 14 points and pulled in six rebounds. The 6-11 native of Poland averaged 10.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.05 blocks per game last season for the Suns and Orlando Magic.
