The Houston Rockets have signed Samuel Dalembert to a two-year, $13.7 million deal. The Sacramento Kings had upped their efforts to re-sign Dalembert after voiding the contract of Chuck Hayes, according to the Sacramento Bee.

“We tried to re-engage with them and see if we could try to get to something that I hoped worked for both of our interests going forward,” Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie said, according to the Bee.

But it was too late. Dalembert signed on with the Rockets, leaving the Kings shorthanded with only a few days left before the season gets underway.

ESPN reports, though, that the Golden State Warriors are looking to fill their own hole at center with 24-year-old Ukrainian free agent center Kyrylo Fesenko. However, the Warriors are not alone. The Miami Heat, a team that caught a lot of heat during last season for not having a strong enough center, are also trying to snag Fesenko, ESPN reports.

The 7-1, 280-pound Fesenko has spent the last four seasons with the Utah Jazz. He was drafted in the second round of 2007’s draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. In his career, he has averaged 8:18 minutes, 2.3 points, two rebounds, and 0.4 blocks per game.

The Denver Nuggets are still hoping that Nene will end up back in the Mile High City, the Denver Post reports, and are waiting out the slimming market for him.

The 6-11 Brazilian center was about to get an offer from the Houston Rockets to be a power forward next to Pau Gasol, but then the three-way trade that would have brought Gasol to Houston was denied by the league, and the Rockets extended an offer sheet to Marc Gasol rather than Nene.

The New Jersey Nets are waiting to see what happens with Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard before making any move on Nene, the Post notes.

Both the Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers have either tried to sign other big men (DeAndre Jordan) or actually done so (David West) without making an offer to Nene, the Post reports.

“In short, it’s looking as though Nene is a backup plan or complementary piece for all his suitors except the Nuggets, who haven’t replaced him and remain interested in making him their starting power forward, where he would play beside young center Timofey Mozgov,” who came over to the Nuggets when Carmelo Anthony was dealt to the New York Knicks.

Before the lockout, the Nuggets offered Nene a four-year, $50 million contract, the Post notes.

Chuck Hayes has been toiling for the Houston Rockets for six seasons and now appears ready to move on. The word from ESPN is that the 6-6, 238-pounder has been offered a four-year, $20 million contract by the Sacramento Kings and the team feels he’ll accept it.

Fox Sports Houston has it that Hayes would like to return to the Rockets but doesn’t want to wait while the team sorts out all of its other free-agent possibilities.

“I talked to [Rockets general manager] Daryl Morey tonight and they need more time,” said Hayes’ agent, Calvin Andrews, on Wednesday, according to Fox. “So they are asking us for more time. I don’t know if Chuck can give them more time beyond tomorrow morning probably. I think tomorrow is D-Day.”

Hayes averaged 7.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 28:06 minutes per game last season.

The Indianapolis Star reports that Pacers president Larry Bird is “scheduled to fly to Denver to meet with Nene on Tuesday.”

The Pacers will likely be around $21 milion under the salary cap, the Star reports, but it remains unclear “are willing to pay top dollar to sign him.”

The 6-11, 250-pounder averaged 14.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists last season for the Nuggets.

The word from a EuroBasket senior writer is that 26-year-old Phoenix Suns point guard Aaron Brooks “was offered” to Israeli pro-basketball team Maccabi Tel Aviv, which has won the Euroleague title five times and placed second eight other times.

Brooks, a Seattle native, has been in the league since 2007 when the Houston Rockets drafted him. He moved to the Suns at the trading deadline this year in exchanged for Goran Dragic and a first-round pick and averaged 10.7 points, 3.9 assists, and 1.3 rebounds a game over the entire season.

ESPN reports that Adelman will be back in Minneapolis Tuesday “to meet with Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor” to discus the potential job. It had been previously reported that Adelman had met with Taylor when he had his first interview with the team, but the site reports that “Taylor’s health issues kept the two from talking face to face.”

If Adelman is hired, it would be a trade of sorts of team execs since Adelman left the Houston Rockets in April and that club has hired former Timberwolves coach and general manager Kevin McHale to run things there, ESPN notes.

According to the site, there have been six other candidates interviewed for the Timberwolves gig, including Bernie Bickerstaff, Larry Brown, Don Nelson, and newly hired New York Knicks assistant Mike Woodson. “None of the candidates have been told they are out of running and none have dropped out of consideration,” ESPN notes.

Sources tell the site that former Pistons assistant Mike Woodson is the likeliest one to be filling the seat left vacant by John Kuester. This is “thanks largely to Woodson’s good working relationship with Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars and the fact that Detroit would know exactly what it’s getting after Woodson’s work under Larry Brown during the Pistons’ 2004 title run,” the site notes.

Woodson spent 11 years in the league as a player with the New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, Kansas City Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, and Cleveland Cavaliers. He was the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks from 2004-2010 and compiled a record of 206-286.

Warriors CEO and majority owner Joe Lacob told the San Jose Mercury News, though, that the team is not trying to trade Ellis. "We really value him and we want him here," Lacob told the paper. "I think he’s a tremendous player and a unique asset. And it would take a helluva deal that really made sense for the organization as a whole in order for us to trade Monta Ellis. We’re not looking to do that."

Lacob also confirmed that the Houston Rockets and other teams have made offers for 7-0 center Andris Biedrins this offseason. "We don’t feel compelled to necessarily deal him," Lacob told the Mercury News. "He is a guy that was a double-double guy in this league a few years ago. Obviously not playing to that level as of late. I think (new coach) Mark (Jackson) would love a chance to get to work with him. I think we’re going to work with him all summer, if we can."
