The search for the Chicago Bulls ' next head coach has taken on some gravity since whoever ends up in that spot could be part of the lure for soon-to-be free agent LeBron James (notes) .
The 32-year-old NBA vet Brian Scalabrine (notes) has been playing for the Boston Celtics since 2005 and he's particularly fond of associate head coach Tom Thibodeau, who has been interviewed by a few teams this year and last offseason for open head-coaching positions. Forward Scalabrine is saying Thobodeau would do wonders if he took over the top job with the Chicago Bulls , according to the Chicago Tribune.
When the New Orleans Hornets say a search is going to be exhaustive, they mean it. Team execs have met with various coaching candidates across the country and have now spoken to eight different possibilities
It wasn't supposed to be this way. With the addition of Shaquille O'Neal (notes) , the Cleveland Cavaliers were supposed to be unstoppable this postseason. LeBron James (notes) was supposed to score the winning basket in Cleveland's championship run and be carried out on the shoulders of his loving city.
Boston Celtics associate head coach Tom Thibodeau took time out of the team's current battle against the Cleveland Cavaliers to interview for the head-coaching job for the New Orleans Hornets yesterday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Thursday, the Hornets also interviewed ESPN analyst Mark Jackson, who recently told the Philadelphia 76ers that he wasn't interested in being considered for their head-coaching opening.
Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown has made it pretty clear publicly that he doesn't want to coach anywhere else but for new team owner Michael Jordan so the Philadelphia 76ers are apparently moving on in the team's search for a new coach to former Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Officials from the Sixers will supposedly meet up with Johnson after the weekend
If Dwyane Wade decides to re-sign with the Miami Heat , then Michael Beasley could end up getting traded this summer , according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The team isn't high on Beasley right now, anyway, and benched the youngster for the second half of the team's final game against the Boston Celtics in its first-round playoff loss. Beasley has one more $5 million year left on his contract and the team has the option of signing him for another year after that, but you can bet coach Erik Spoelstra wouldn't mind not having to deal with the headache of Beasley again next season.
Soon-to-be New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorev, the second-richest man in Russia, supposedly wanted Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski to take over the Nets next season but Coach K made it clear that he doesn't want to leave his lovely life. Also on the list for Prokhorev are Boston Celtics associate head coach Tom Thibodeau and former New York Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy. The latter is now an analyst or ESPN and the word from the New York Daily News is that he's not planning to move from there back to the NBA sidelines
The New Jersey Nets will have lots of transitions to go through this summer: a new owner, some new players, and a new coach. The New York Daily News has it that Boston Celtics associate head coach Tom Thibodeau is now at the top of the list to take over the Nets now that Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski has made it clear that he doesn't want to take an NBA job. This isn't the first time Thibodeau's name has come up as a potential head coach and it won't likely be the last, either.
The Golden State Warriors lost 112-94 last night to the Washington Wizards , keeping head coach Don Nelson one game away from being the winningest coach in NBA history. He's still tied with the 1,332 wins Lenny Wilkens racked up. Now ESPN is reporting that Nelson missed on opportunities to coach the Boston Celtics and the San Antonio Spurs during his long coaching career, according to ESPN.
